Dear Saints of God,
Last Tuesday, July 14, Randy Makee gave me a letter of resignation as Grace Episcopal Church’s Senior Warden. His letter explained that he and his family cannot remain involved in our parish’s ministries due to differences with the direction of The Episcopal Church as a denomination.
I have accepted his resignation. Randy and I talked one-on-one for an hour and he came and spoke to the Vestry on Thursday, July 26. He was clear with me that:
- this decision was very difficult for his family,
- this decision does not imply lack of confidence or upset with Grace Church or its ministries,
- his family will deeply miss seeing you all frequently and
- his family will honor their commitments to volunteer for Pork Fest, so you can see them there.
In return, the Vestry and I were clear that, while we are sad for their departure, we are grateful for the energy and enthusiasm for ministry they they have brought to us.
The Vestry has reviewed the parish bylaws to appoint a new Senior Warden to complete Randy Makee’s term until its end in January. Although the Vestry has no August meeting, they will take this action at their September 17 meeting and the parish will be kept informed as that day approaches.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. If you have no questions or concerns, please keep this parish and the Makee family in your prayers during this time that we walk apart yet remain ever hopeful for Christ’s ministry of reconciliation.
Yours by grace,
Fr. Jason Wells
