Holocaust Memorial Program

Monday, May 1, 5:30 pm, Temple Beth Jacob, 67 Broadway

After offering prayers in memory of the six million victims, we will show the film, Denial. The film will be followed by a question and answer session. Based on the acclaimed book Denial: Holocaust History on Trial, the film recounts Professor Deborah E. Lipstadt’s legal battle for truth against David Irving, who sued her for libel in London after she declared him a Holocaust denier. It was up to Professor Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred. The film dramatizes the 2001 courtroom case, the behind the scenes work of Professor Lipstadt and her lawyers, and the concerns of the British Jewish community.

When friends and colleagues advised her to avoid court, Professor Lipstadt refused to back down. She put her reputation and livelihood on the line to preserve the undeniable truth of the Holocaust.

Professor Lipstadt has taught at Emery University since 1993. Her book, Denying The Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory, revealed a complex web of anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi groups that actively promote doubt about the Holocaust.
